Because it's my God-given right to sit in the spot, where I have sat every Sunday for the last fifteen years, that's why. Scripture says things should be done in an orderly fashion, and that means
my seat is
my seat. New people can feel free to sit way up front, or in the back of the balcony. I earned this seat by living longer than the people who used to sit here. As the Word of God says, "we will not be shaken…" into changing pews. The Bible talks a lot about being set, sure, and steady, and for me that means starting with the basics.
If we get all willy-nilly about who sits where, the next thing you know we'll have to make eye contact with strangers and talk to visitors. These are dark times for the church, and we need to take a stand for order, reason, and consistency. My feet are shod with the Gospel of Truth, my head with the Helmet of Salvation, and my butt is firmly planted in the Cushion of Steadfastness. The Devil would love nothing more than for me to be distracted with a weird viewing angle of the pulpit and miss the message—not today, Satan! If you don't like that, you need
to be less judgmental.
