Is family planting biblical?

Family planting is absolutely biblical. You may recall that after God created Adam and Eve, He intended for them to grow crops (Genesis 2:5). And until recently in human history, children followed their parents' profession. Gardening with your family is definitely biblical.

That doesn't mean it's easy. Have you ever tried to teach a kid to weed? I have such sympathy for my mom! Have you ever given a family member the electric trimmer and seen the aftermath of your flowerbed? Or had your toddler help you start seeds, then watch as they pour water all over the place, knock over the paper cups, and track dirt onto the carpet?

Sure, it's a great idea to follow the lead of those guys in San Francisco who turn their backyards and front yards into vegetable gardens. But have you ever tried to grow enough produce for an entire family for a whole year? Just try to teach your pre-teen how to hoe the weeds and not the carrots. Or trust your teenager to water the bed that the automatic sprinklers don't quite reach.

So, yeah, family planting is biblical. It's in our nature to garden with our kids. But it'll take a lot of effort to patiently and calmly teach them how to do the hard work. If you really want to raise all the produce your family needs in the year, more power to you. But to make things a little easier, you might consider, family planning.
