The Homey Spirit and the Homie Spirit are two different aspects of the nature of God, differing only in how the terms are spelled. Theologians identify these as roles performed by the third Person of the Trinity, also known as the
Holy Spirit. These are not fully separate persons, or beings, but are roles which the Holy Spirit fulfills when dealing with different people.
The Homey Spirit, spelled with a letter "Y," is that aspect of God's nature which appeals to rural personalities, one's sense of comfort, or anything that evokes coziness. The Homie Spirit, spelled with an "I-E," refers to God's appeal to friendship, youth, familiarity, trust, and extended family.
Any connection of the term "Homey Spirit" with clowns or tennis-ball-laced socks is circumstantial. Conviction of the Holy Spirit might feel like being smacked in the back of the head, but not described as such in Scripture.
