Self-medicating is an all-too-common coping mechanism in the modern world. We've become so used to mind-altering substances that many users seek combinations to achieve a reasonable high. As part of this new fad, young people today are reportedly medicating on Scripture to enhance their experience.
Properly medicating on Scripture means choosing the right combinations of verse and vice. Alcohol's tendency to inspire singing makes it a popular partner for the Psalms, but reduced inhibitions make it a risky addition to Song of Solomon. The fast-moving pace of the Gospel of Mark often appeals to the cocaine user. Recreational marijuana is said to harmonize beautifully with the deep philosophy and relaxed tone of the Gospel of John.
More adventurous users have medicated on Scripture by dropping acid while reading Ezekiel and Revelation. Most claim this results in hallucinations beyond their wildest imaginations. There have been reports, however, that LSD and Ezekiel occasionally cancel each other out, and the book reads like a local newspaper.
Given the choice, it's better to
meditate on the Word of God than to attempt to medicate on Scripture. For those who really want to give it a try, we'd strongly suggest taking a hit of The Word, alone, to see how much it affects you. You might be surprised.
