Who were the Sons of Coral?

The Sons of Coral were an experimental punk band from the coast of Australia. The original line-up included Pearl on drums, Sheldon on violin, Tad on steel guitar, and Nemo on electric harp. Their first album gained them a good-sized Instagram following. On their sophomore album, Squirt joined on theremin and Tad transitioned to hammered dulcimer. The lighter, beachier sound won them a guest appearance on The Late Late Show with James Crawdad.

Sons of Coral's third album dives into darker themes. Pearl explained that during recording, Sheldon sat so still the other band members became inspired by his embodiment of the futility of effort. Sources close to the band say Sheldon couldn't find childcare at the last minute and missed the recording session. What the band thought was him was actually just his violin, sitting on a chair. He is still credited and he's flattered that they had such respect for his avant garde vibe, even if it was unintentional.

The band mostly did local gigs—grade school talent shows and the like. Four years ago, they started performing at private events like corporate conferences. Their last known show was the birthday party of a young girl in Sidney named Darla. Darla's representatives claim they paid the band so much money that they broke up and are now exploring personal projects. Dory's podcast, "Land Piranha" suggests something much more sinister, although when reached for this article, she didn't remember ever having a podcast. Authorities refuse to comment, claiming the investigation is on-going. Fans are worried. They had hoped for years, if not generations, of music from the band, like the Sons of Korah.
