There is significant controversy over whether the phrase "wreckless love" applies to God. According to singer Carrie Underwood, at least one car crash has been averted thanks to the driver calling out, "Jesus Take the Wheel." The greater meaning seems to be that allowing God to control one's life is preferable to attempting to steer it alone. In that sense, one could say God's love is entirely "wreckless."
Unfortunately, safety researchers have found the phrase "Jesus take the wheel" markedly ineffective at avoiding literal wrecks. Experiments were controlled for variables such as whether the driver spoke, screamed, or sang the phrase, the make and model of the car, and the religious affiliation of the passengers. Soon-to-be-published results suggest it's possible that an omnipotent deity might not be inclined to jump every time a careless motorist freaks out.
In one reported incident, the driver of a car with a "coexist" sticker called out "Jesus, take the wheel," at which point the right-rear tire mysteriously disappeared. In that case, at least, God's love was certainly not "wreckless," but it was hilarious.
In the end, it's been determined that to shout "Jesus take the wheel" and release control of one's car is not advised. It is an inappropriate challenge of
God's reckless love.
