What is the meaning of the in corn nation of Christ?

On I-70, near Colby, Kansas, a billboard rises from the fields. On the billboard is a field of wheat, ripe golden heads stretching to the horizon. Poking out of the field is a man's head: pale skin, beard and mustache, long flowing locks of brown hair. His right hand lifts a fan of wheat heads.

This is Wheat Jesus.

The billboard is the work of Tuffy and Linda Kay Taylor who own the nearby outlet mall. They intentionally didn't include a message on the sign, allowing travelers to find inspiration however they feel led. For my family, who travel I-70 across Kansas several times a year, it means time for Starbucks and Qdoba at the truck stop.

Wheat Jesus has a Reddit page, Yelp reviews, and a whole lot of magnets. You can even buy a black and white photo from Etsy for $95.

The In Corn Nation of Christ was to be the companion piece of Wheat Jesus. It was to be erected outside of Kearney, Nebraska, by Linda Kay's sister, Margaret. Sadly, Cabela's bought the land before Margaret could raise the funds.

In an interview, Margaret admitted she was somewhat relieved. Wheat Jesus, with his pale skin, never sat right with her, and she doubted In Corn Nation Jesus would do much better as His hair was going to resemble corn silk. She knew that since God the Son was born as a Jewish man, his incarnated form would not be Caucasian.
