There is no indication that Thomas Jefferson ever traveled to Indiana. Apparently, although he visited England, France, and Italy, he never went farther west than Falling Spring Falls, Virginia. I can see how you would be confused, since there is a Jeffersonville in Indiana across the river from Louisville, KY. Apparently it was named around the time Jefferson became president, and the platting system he developed was used to plan the city.
Ironically, the Marquis de Lafayette
did visit Jeffersonville, IN, in May of 1825. He boarded a steamship in Shawneetown, IL, and traveled east to Jeffersonville before continuing to Frankfort, TN.
Ironically, Lafayette
did not visit Lafayette, IN. Lafayette, IN, started as a French fort in 1717 and was platted as Lafayette in 1825, probably in honor of his visit to Jeffersonville, IN, 174 miles away.
Ironically, in
Hamilton, a musical about Alexander Hamilton, one of the more obscure founding fathers of the US, written by Lin-Manuel Miranda based on the book by Ron Chernow, Daveed Diggs (who is awesome) played both the Marquis de Lafayette
and Thomas Jefferson. You can tell them apart because Lafayette has a French accent and Jefferson sings "What did I Miss?"
Ironically, it is unlikely that either Lafayette or Jefferson knew they were going to be portrayed by the same African-American actor from California. But they may have. They were visionaries, after all. They may also have known that Daveed Diggs would be in the TV series
Star Wars Resistance, voicing the character of Norath Kev.
Ironically, an actress named Nazneen Contractor is also in
Star Wars Resistance, voicing the character Synara San. Nazneen Contractor is from Mumbai, India, which is across the tip of India from Mylapore.
Ironically, historical records indicate that one of Jesus' apostles traveled to Mylapore, India, and shared the gospel there.
Ironically, the apostle
that possibly went to India was Thomas.
